About the School

The Ivan Franko National University of Lviv invites high school students, school graduates, students, IT specialists and all interested parties to the Summer School “MAthematics and Statistics in COmputer Technologies (MASCOT-2026)” on July 6-10, 2026.

Mathematics and statistics are the foundation of modern computer technology.
The study of mathematics is important for programming, because mathematical structures underlie search algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
In engineering, mathematical models help design systems, optimize processes, and predict the behavior of complex objects.
In the field of information security, mathematical methods underlie cryptography and encryption algorithms.

Statistics makes it possible to identify patterns in large data sets, make predictions, and assess the reliability of the results obtained. The combination of classical statistical methods with modern computing capabilities of computers allows you to analyze a variety of information: video, sound, digital data streams from various smart devices, etc.

Together, mathematics and statistics form an intellectual toolkit that drives technological progress forward.

Why joining us:

  • understanding the algorithms underlying information technology
  • developing modern software applications
  • the opportunity to obtain a prestigious certificate
  • joining the community of IT professionals

Purpose of the school

Provide a systematic basic knowledge of modern mathematics, form an intuitive and formal understanding of key concepts, and show broad prospects for their practical application in programming, data analytics, engineering, and related technological fields.

Special emphasis is placed on what mathematical ideas underlie the algorithms, models, optimization methods, and technical solutions that determine the development of modern digital systems.

During your studies at the summer school, you will be able to expect

  • informative lectures from practicing teachers who will talk about the use of mathematical methods in programming, engineering and information analysis
  • interesting and meaningful discussions about various areas of mathematical knowledge
  • practical advice from faculty graduates who work in various tech fields

What exactly will we study?

  • mathematical thinking — forms the logic and structural approach necessary for creating effective algorithms in programming
  • statistical fundamentals — allow you to analyze data, build models, and draw correct conclusions in analytics
  • cryptographic methods — are based on number theory, combinatorics, and algebra, providing reliable information encryption
  • engineering calculations — help model systems, assess loads, and predict the behavior of structures
  • information protection — uses mathematical algorithms to detect anomalies, check integrity, and build secure protocols
  • optimization approaches — allow you to find the best solutions to complex technical problems in various industries
  • process modeling — provides the ability to predict outcomes and test ideas without risk and expense
